2 years ago TODAY, I was part of a street outreach team in downtown Frankfurt. I have been doing this a couple of years now, with the aim to hone my skills of evangelizing and it has been awesome.
On this Saturday, like any other monthly outreach, the team presented some creative skits and there was a dynamic band headed by Christian Scharnagl playing powerful worship songs in the middle of the city at an open square.
Crowds gathered, even if they didn’t understand what these songs are about. They find themselves drawn to the music. My outreach partner and I talked with 15-20 people about God, with no apparent impact. I was getting tired under the scorching sun.
Suddenly, I spotted a petite, pretty, dark-haired woman with dark eye shadow, carrying a coffee machine. I caught her eye and smiled. I wasn’t sure so I didn’t make a move. Then my partner said, hey, let’s try that lady over there with the dark hair. At that moment, I knew it was a sign from the Holy Spirit.
We both approached her and started making conversation. At the beginning she seemed reluctant to engage, kept insisting to us she believed in God … sort of …. She is Macedonian and came from a religious orthodox church background. But we both discerned in our spirit that she hasn’t been born again.
We kept going and I asked whether she had a living and personal relationship with Jesus Christ. My partner also explained to her that the Holy Spirit has to be on the inside of her in order for her to experience God truly. I then explained this is God’s work and she needed to be born again in order to be saved, but it starts with a clear decision to follow Jesus.
